Sun Showers and Elevators - The Wedding of Simon and Simone

I will always remember three things from this wedding.  The brilliance of the sunshower that followed the ceremony, the cheeky blue elevator and sharks!  What an absolute JOY it was to witness your special day Simon and Simone!! And I think I will have to wait a long time to encounter a more unusual setting for a bride and groom portrait session.  Wow!!

Fig Trees and Fallen Leaves Pre-Wedding Session

This shoot started with a competition and a challenge... these two cool cats were the winners of the FREE Pre-Wedding Photography Package at the Mounts Bay Sailing Club Wedding Showcase in May, but were convinced that they weren't photogenic.  My mission was to prove them wrong! No denying I won hands down :-)  We met at the gorgeous Mounts Bay Road figs opposite the Old Brewery, and spent an hour goofing around in the leaves and finding cute little nooks amoungst the trees.  Thanks A+N for being such good sports!  You are a pretty fantastic couple xx

Inspiring Industrial Venue in South Perth - Halo Espresso

If you are looking for a vibey venue for your next function, take the time to check out Halo Espresso!  The perfect size for birthday parties, engagements or intimate wedding receptions, this hidden gem in South Perth with it's exposed brick and distinctly industrial features is an absolute beauty.  Add to this the great staff, flexible function packages and close proximity to the CBD, and you have yourself the whole shabang!  Oh, and did I mention that all profits go to amazing social enterprises in some of the poorest countries around the world! BOOM!

Wedding Photography Timing - Planning it Well

One of the questions I get asked the most with wedding photography, is how to plan a good flow of photography on the day.  So here is my attempt to answer the question....

1. FOCUS & FLOW

Your wedding day is a celebration of your love, with all the people you love the most. Rather than trying to get all the 'right' photos, focus on a flow of events that will give you and your guests the most enjoyable experience. This will result in beautifully real images!

2. FOLLOW THE LIGHT

That amazing light that makes everything magic happens in the 20mins before and the 10 mins after sunset.  So 'Google' when the sun sets on the date of your wedding, and try to organise your timeframes to allow you that half hour alone outside.  In summer, this might mean that you kick off the reception before you quietly slip out.  People will be enjoying the food so much they won't even know you were missing.

3. TAKE A MOMENT OUT

So much planning, and the day goes by so fast!  Please make sure you give yourselves a little window of time, to sit down and take it all in.

4. A SAMPLE TIMEFRAME

These are the average amounts of time I would ideally give myself at every station.

45 MIN     Grooms Preps

90 MIN     Brides Preps

20 MIN     Pre Ceremony (guests arriving, groom waiting, bride arriving)

40 MIN     Ceremony

60 MIN     Post Ceremony (mingling, group shot, family shot, congratulations)

15 MIN     Pre Reception (reception details, cutting cake, first dance)

45 MIN     Bridal Party

60 MIN     Bride and Groom (you might break this up into two parts depending on sunset)

60 MIN     Reception (everyone at their tables, enjoying food, beginning of speeches)

Main differences to this time frame would occur if utilising a second shooter for Grooms Preps, or if you would prefer full reception coverage.

Britt and Josh's Baby Bump

You would have no idea that this AMAZING mumma had one week to go when we skipped on down to their favourite fishing spot to capture them enjoying their baby bump!  Adoring and joyful is the best way I can describe these two when they are together, boldly looking forward to their lives being turned upside down in a few short days!  Britt and Josh, I know you are going to enjoy the ride!

Introducing Riley Rose

It was only 2 years ago that I met this beautiful couple with their first little newborn Miss Maddie, and it is one of the great pleasures of my work to be able to witness families, like theirs, grow.  The latest addition, the adorable Riley Rose is perfect in every way, and is so blessed to be born into this home full of love and laughter.

Introducing Indiana

It was such a joy seeing this beautiful couple again, celebrating the birth of their second gorgeous girl, the incredible Miss Indiana!  And my goodness has her sister grown since I last saw her when she was only a few days old.  Where this home is short on sleep, it makes up for in cuddles and cuteness!  B+A you are doing a fantastic job!!!!

Leederville Pre Elopement Session!!!

These two crazy kids (and I say kids with a big smile on my face because they have not lost the joy and laughter of childhood) led me on a merry chase around Oxford Street and Hyde Park, pausing here and there to enjoy each other! As they will soon be dashing off to a romantic elopement on a tropical island they wanted a chance to celebrate their love for each other through the streets their home in Perth.  It could not have been a more fun afternoon, a huge thank you K+J for letting me see the world through your eyes!

Sweet Sunset on the Swan - Mounts Bay Sailing Club

Had such a delightful time with these two beautiful people as we wandered the grounds of Mounts Bay Sailing Club! There are few Perth wedding venues, where you can tie the knot with such a spectacular and unbroken view of the city.  And there are few more romantic ways to end your wedding day than watching the sun set over the twinkling Swan River.  A huge thanks to my second shooter The Stache Photography, to Makeup by Nasia for the perfect hair and makeup, and to Michela for the stunning flowers and floral arch.

Childhood Sweethearts Engagement Session

I literally got goosebumps when Miss P told me their plans for our session.  We started at the playground where they used to hang out as youngsters, and at the climbing frame where she first realised she loved him.  Then we found the wooden post that he had carved their initials into, and finally to the beachfront where he proposed!!  Even the cold and wind couldn't dampen this couples love and enjoyment of each other... when they looked into each others eyes it's like nothing else mattered!

The Beautiful Now - Introducing Stephanie

My friend Stephanie is fiercely beautiful... strong and gentle, bold and shy.  I love her contrasts, I love her light and shade, I love her very much.  These are a few of my favourite pics from an afternoon we spent playing near some ruins.  Please don't wait for those 'big' life events to get some beautiful photographs taken of yourself.  Just book a portrait session today, because your face, and your personality are worth recording right now, just as you are!

SNEAK PEAK - Sarah and Luke's Tumbulgum Park Outback Wedding

Yesterday I go to witness two of my dear friends say yes to forever together!  With storms threatening all week, the weather was so kind to us as we jumped on a ute and explored the amazing grounds at Tumbulgum Park.  There were many crazy moments with the hilarious bridal party,  but the gentleness and joy of these final shots before the sun set make them my favourites!  Oh yes, a white horse just happened to wander over :-) could it get any better!!

The Magnificent Indolaysian Wedding of Mark and Juri

I cannot describe to you what a privelege and an honour it was to witness this beautiful couple getting married, in an intimately beautiful ceremony in the bride's parents home (Mum is from Malaysia and Dad is from Indonesia).  From the hustle of what seemed like a hundred family and friends preparing the backyard reception, through the raucous grooms procession, the solemn ceremony and finally the huge celebration that followed, every moment was precious and infused with love.  J&M thank you so much for letting me photograph your gorgeous wedding, may your marriage be as wonderful xxx

City to Surf Adventure Engagement Shoot

I absolutely LOVE it when couples put thought into telling their own unique love stories!  These two went to town recreating all the significant moments of their relationship, which took us from the South Perth foreshore, to the waves of City Beach, to a juice bar and finally a kebab shop (with several props and costume changes, including but not limited to, the 'free with purchase' beer caps, and the must have 'back-to-front cat dress').  What can I say, love grows in (sometimes) strange ways!  I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we enjoyed capturing them.

Fun Floreat Beach Engagement Shoot

These two beach babes are getting married in a few short months, and it was so much fun taking an afternoon to play with them at Floreat Beach.  Sarah and Luke thank you for letting me capture your 'beach-loving-fun-loving-skate-loving' love for each other, even if it did involve being pumeled by surf and running up ridiculous sand dunes!

SNEAK PEAK - The Wedding of Mark and Juri

I am LOVING editing these images so much, that thought I would pop a few sneak peaks up as I go.  This was the incredible traditional muslim backyard wedding of Mark and Juri.  After all the formal ceremony was conducted, and the guests were well into enjoying their feast of a meal, these two lovebirds slipped out for a quiet moment at sunset...

Introducing Joel - Newborn Lifestyle Shoot

This little guy won the cruisiest newborn baby award, for being an absolute champion!  After a 2 hour natural labour he then proceeded to smile and sleep his way through our photo session.  Gorgeous little features, gorgeous skin and gorgeous mum.  It was such a joy getting to meet him!  Huge congrats G&C on such a precious little boy xxx
